Vinopremio Scholarship

UAV to analyze and understand what Terroir means
The applications of the newly available unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology are countless. My project is to use it and to associate it to high resolution image processing, in order to capture the various aspects of vineyard development, including components and effects of terroir, throughout the most important wine growing regions of Europe. The project aims to utilize a fixed wing UAV (SenseFly®) to continuously take high resolution multispectral images to monitor, track, and compare different terroirs of Europe. This information will then be integrated into a geospatial database along with the known climate, the physical properties of the soil, and grower practices to give a global view of all of the elements of terroir.

William Metz, 26 years old, is actually a student at Ecole d’ingénieurs de Changins (Switzerland) for a « Master of Science in Viticulture and Enology »
